The Vigilante: Part 3

General Dedan Kimathi appeared to me in a dream last night. He was furious. He held a giant bow in his left hand and a steel arrow in his right. A dozen other arrows where in a buffalo leather sheath that was strapped on his back using a crocodile leather strap. He positioned the arrow in the bow as he angrily questioned why I had ignored his instructions. That was not the first time he had appeared to me. It was the 7th time in a month.I had ignored them as sheer dreams. I am not a very superstitious man but last night's dream was too vivid to be just a dream. In each of the instances he appeared to me, he ordered me to sweep the streets of Nairobi. But I did not know what he meant until he appeared with the weapons.

So after failing to answer his question, he aimed the arrow at my upper between the thighs. I froze. I desperately pictured how the Bukusus would bury me. I must have been a disgrace to the community for having failed to produce enough publications to carry my name. I closed my eyes in readiness to embark on the journey to join my ancestors in the land of unknown.

I heard him release the arrow! I heard someone fall with a heavy thud. I opened my eyes immediately. He lay breathless with an arrow in is right eye. The lifeless body of that young adult man had a small bag full of assorted cell phones strapped on the shoulder. Kimathi then looked at me in the eyes. I glanced at him then looked down. He commanded me to look in his eyes. Terrified, I obeyed. His eyes were red hot. It was as if he had been smoking the big traditional cigarette. They were as red as hot coal. This time round he had both the bow and the bag of arrows in his left hand. He gently placed his right hand on my left should and handed me the weapons saying "Now you know what to do. You are not a small boy any more!" And before I could say anything, he had already disappeared.

These goons have wronged the city.  I must take them down! City administrators have let down the city. Since government through its law enforcement and security agencies have failed, I will step in to help. I have to restore the sanity and civility of the city. Never shall we again  hear of muggings in Nairobi streets.

Dedan Kimathi installed me as the Commander of the Nairobi City Restoration Force (NACIREF). It is a ruthless force. NACIREF is mercilessly lethal. It is armed to the teeth and ready to strike. Warn your wayward brothers, cousins, nephews, sons and friends who you know are engaged in muggings and phone snatching in the city. Their days are numbered. We are after them. Our non-uniformed soldiers are strategically located in affected areas. They ready to apprehend and mete out instant punishment to the offenders. Our punishment is double amputation and castration. We have established an office within the CBD where people can come and claim their stolen gadgets that we shall recover form the thieves. I have to sweep the city clean!
